This summer I had a short trip to Washington D.C. with my twin sis Annie and my mom.  We were there for a cause close to our hearts, the National Brain Tumor Society representing my late father AJ Kotich, but that’s another blog post I will share later.  We stopped in at The Fashion Centre at Pentagon City in Arlington, Virginia and came across the holy grail of  beauty stores…the ““NYX Professional Makeup” store.   I wish we had one of these in Kansas City!!!

First of all, I have always been a fan of this makeup company.  I first learned about them a few years ago when they started popping up at Target and Walmart.  Here is the story behind this unique company. It was founded in 1999 by Toni Ko and is a subsidiary of L’Oreal company.  It was named after “Nyx”, the Greek goddess of the night. NYX has become wildly successful due to it being marketed as having “department store quality” products while sold at “drugstore prices.” I left Washington with a small haul of some great products. I reviewed a few of my favorites.

The “Angel Veil Skin Perfecting Primer” typically runs anywhere from $11.00 to $15.99 depending on where you purchase it.  This can be purchased directly on the NYX website or at Target or Walmart.  This is a great primer to use if you need a light base for your foundation.  I like the fact that it creates a great base and minimizes the look of your pores. So I give it two thumbs up!! Next is the “NYX Shadow Pigments” in Number 21 which is more of a taupe shade with some glimmer.  I love that it is a loose pigmented shadow.  It goes on smooth and allows you to determine how much coverage you want to use and how dramatic you want to go.  It comes in 24 shades and at $6.50 a pop you can try a variety of different shades.  The shade is pictured below on my arm.

Okay, lets continue on this “NYX Cosmetic” journey.  I’m a big believer in concealer.  Unfortunately, I don’t have perfect skin and concealer is definitely my friend. I have tried almost every concealer out there so why not add NYX to the list! I purchased their “Full Coverage Concealer” in the shade “Sand Beige.” This product runs anywhere from $5.00 to $7.69 depending on where you purchase it.  Concealers come in varieties, such as sticks, jars or wands.  I tend to like the jar or stick because I feel like they give better coverage.  I would highly recommend this concealer you get full coverage for a great price!!  Next up, drumroll please…is the “NYX Studio Finishing Powder.”  This product runs anywhere from $8.96 to $10.00 depending on where you purchase it. This product goes a long way.  I use this product if I am going to have a long day and need full coverage.  I use this for “baking” my makeup.  If you are not familiar with the “baking technique” I will share this in another blog post.  Anyway, this is a product to use sparingly because if you use too much you can end up looking like Casper the Friendly Ghost!

Last but certainly not least is the “NYX Matte Lipstick” in shade “Natural” shown above.  This shade is a great color that compliments any skin tone. This lipstick can be purchased for about $6.00.  When it comes to makeup products I tend to be drawn to lipsticks, nail polishes and eyeshadows.  Maybe because you are able to change your look each day with just a switch of lip shade or eye shadow.   I love, love lippies!!!  This lipstick has to be one of my favorite brands.  If you want a lipstick that will last all day long and is very pigmented this is the lipstick for you. Now beauties, if you are more of a glossy gal then this is not the lipstick for you.  It is a matte finish but lasts all day long!!  Great news ladies, for the price of $6.00 you can purchase a shade for everyday of the week!! So my friends “Nyx” Products will give you the look of a Greek Goddess or a Babe on a Budget.  So go get “Nyxed!!”
