Healthy Tips : How To Relieve Stress and Anxiety in a World Full of Chaos! Annie Kotich(Contributor)

IMG_2202.jpg

Anxiety and stress happen to be all to common now a days with the hustle and bustle of life. I have suffered from anxiety for years and it is not an easy thing to manage.  My friends, managing stress can be easy with some simple and healthy life changes.

First of all you need to find out the root of what is causing your stress or anxiety.  Is it genetic or is it brought upon by environmental issues such as work, finances, social pressure, or family issues?  When you find the root of the cause of your stress or anxiety it will become easier to figure out how to manage it.

Remember,  I am not a medical professional, just a midwest girl who has suffered from anxiety most of my life. If your anxiety is disrupting your daily life, it’s time to seek help from a therapist or doctor.

Here are some tips I have learned over the years and most recently to reduce my stress and anxiety. Tip #1 purchase a journal or notebook of some kind to organize your tasks for the day.  I tend to get overwhelmed easily with work, bills, and even planning out when to do my blog posts. You can get a cute journal most everywhere, like the one shown above.  I purchased these two at Target for $6.99 each. One for organizing your tasks for the day as well as finances. Tip #2 find  a gratitude journal or jar. Sometimes its easy for us to forget the positive things in our life when there is negativity or stress we deal with on a daily basis.  The purpose of the gratitude journal is to write down a few things each day that you are grateful for.  Some things I’m grateful for are: I had a good night sleep or my day at work went well.  This will allow you to focus on the positive things in your life instead of dwelling on the negative. Plus it’s always fun to get a cute pen to write with!!

Tip #3  Purchase essential oils to relieve stress and anxiety.  I am a big fan of these,  lavender oils are known to reduce anxiety, improve sleep, and brain function. You can use lavender oils in a variety of different ways. Use it with a diffuser and put by your bed or family room.  You can sprinkle some on your pillow as well for a good nights sleep.  I’m a big fan of soaking my worries away in a tub. I love sprinkling some in my bath water for a calming effect.  You can also apply lavender oil topically behind your ears for the same benefits. Another great essential oil for anxiety and stress is peppermint. Peppermint oil is known to help with headaches, nausea and opening nasal passages, allergies and more. I use it to help me breath a little better when my anxiety is acting up.  Just add a few dabs under your nose to help open nasal passages.  You can also add to a diffuser as well or dab on your temples to help relieve a tension headache.  I purchased the lavender and peppermint essential oils at Walmart for about $5.33 each. Tip #4 use therapy dough or a stress ball to relieve some of your daily stress.  I purchased “Pinch Me” therapy dough at Barnes and Noble for about $14.95.  This stuff is amazing, just roll it between your fingers when you feel stress coming on.  “Pinch Me” therapy dough is a soft, pliable dough infused with calming aromatherapy. You can even use it while your watching television, reading or in a meeting, anywhere you need to unwind.  Now go live a stress and anxiety free life!!!

Note: If you do find that your stress and anxiety is getting hard to handle on your own, it may be time to seek professional help. You may also confide in a friend or family member for support. There are many free resources available to lend a caring ear.

Get The Buzz On My Latest Beauty Buys!

IMG_2178.jpg

Sometimes in life we need a little change.  Whether it’s changing the shade of your lipstick from a pale pink to a rosy red or a simple shimmer added to your latest shade of blush.  Ah, it’s the small things in life that make life worth living right? I love trying new products and I’m here to give you the 411 on what the latest buzz in beauty products are.

If you have read my previous posts you might recall me talking about Thrive Causemetics.  I love this company and what it stands for.  Thrive Causemetics is “Beauty with a Purpose.” Thrive’s goal is to donate a  product for each purchase to a woman in need. They are 100% cruelty free and vegan!  In the past I have tried their eyeshadow palettes and eyeliner and have not been disappointed. Recently, I decided to purchase their “Headliner” lipstick in the shade “Kennedy” which is a blue red shade that looks great on almost every skin tone, I am wearing all products listed in picture below.  It is a creamy texture that instantly hydates your lips and lasts all day. It can be purchased on their website at Thrive Causemetics for $26.00 and comes with a free adorable makeup bag.  How can you go wrong?

Products used: Nars Blush in “Orgasm,” Thrive Causmetics Lipstick in the shade “Kennedy,” and Pixi “Rose Oil Blend.”

The second product I recently purchased is Nars Blush in the shade “Orgasm,” I’m a big fan of Princess Meghan Markle and love her fashion sense and style, One of her favorite beauty products she loves wearing is Nars Blush in the shade “Orgasm” that gives her that natural rosy glow.   I purchased this shade for myself on their website Nars Cosmetics for $30.00.  I love that it gives me a subtle peachy glow with a little shimmer added to it.  If you go on the Nars Cosmetics website it gives you a variety of shades that you can choose from virtually by uploading your picture on their website. Pretty cool huh?

The third product that I keep seeing reviews about on other blogs and articles is Pixi Beauty Products.  I was headed to my nearest Target so I decided to browse the cosmetic section and see what I could find.  I’m a huge fan of trying different skincare treatments so I decided to purchase their Pixi Skintreats “Rose Oil Blend,” and give it a whirl.  Pixi’s face oil can be used before and after you take your makeup off for the day. You just need a few drops for each application to leave your skin feeling soft and refreshed all day.  The great thing about this product is that it contains all natural products such as sweet almond, rosehip, jojoba and is cruelty free.  It can be purchased at Target or you local drugstore for around  $24.00. If you have a derma roller it can be used alongside the oil in order to rejuvenate the skin. I am wearing it under my makeup in the picture shown above.  Remember friends change is always good!

“Gray Matters!”

IMG_1777 (2).jpg

“Gray Matters” indeed especially to me and my family. My sister, mom and myself are headed to Washington D.C. in a few days to advocate for more funding and research for brain tumor survivors with the National Brain Tumor Society and honor my late father AJ Kotich who died of a brain tumor in 2015.  We are “heading to the hill” to meet with representatives from our state of Kansas to tell my Dad’s story and how there is a need for more funding for research and treatment for brain tumor patients.

I wanted to get ready and “gray up” so I had my nail tech and friend Jade Brown at Stem Hair and Body Salon do my nails in two shades of gray. Jade used CND Shellac Color in “Silver Chrome” and CND Shellac Color in “Asphalt.”  She created the gray ribbon with the “Silver Chrome” color.  The colors are pictured below.  So friends remember “Gray Matters!”

Thrive Causemetics “Warm Neutrals Eyeshadow Palette”: How to achieve this everyday look!

IMG_1699

IMG_6686IMG_1692

I am a huge fan of this Cosmetic Company Thrive Causemetics. I first discovered them about 6 months ago on social media.  This cosmetic company is 100% cruelty free and vegan.  It was founded by Karissa Bodnar who lost her close friend Kristy to cancer at a young age.  Her friend inspired her to create this beauty brand to empower women.  Thrive Causemetics is “Beauty with a Purpose.”  Every product you purchase one is donated to help a woman thrive!  Losing my father a few years ago to brain cancer I am a huge fan of this company and their mission.

I recently purchased their “Perfect Eye Palette in Warm Neutrals” and I absolutely love it!  The shadows are very pigmented so they last all day. These shades compliment all skin tones and eye colors.  If you are going to have one go to shadow palette this is the one to have. I purchased it on their website Thrive Causemetics for $45.00 it comes with a free cute makeup bag as well.  My friend and stylist Jade Brown at Stem Hair and Body Salon achieved the warm neutral look on me above. Below are the steps she did to create this look.

Step 1: Apply the color “Helen” to the outer crease.

Step 2: Apply the color “Frida” on the eyelid.

Step 3: Apply the color “Roseann” to outer corner below the color “Helen” and above the lash line.

Step 4:  Apply the color “Frida” to the inner eyelid and then apply “Winnie” on the center lid.

Step 5:  Apply liner and lashes if desired.  After lashes apply the color “Marlee” above lash line to create a shadow.

Thoughtful Thursdays

IMG_1694

This weeks “Thoughtful Thursday” tip is about being grateful for the things we have. In life we all have battles we are fighting whether big or small. These battles make us stronger and build character, right? These battles allow us to appreciate the smallest things in our lives. You may not live in a mansion or wear the latest high end brands or drive the latest luxury car but is that what life is all about? Life is about pursuit of dreams and loving each other.

When you’re down think of the true treasures in your life. Your family, the roof over your head, your job, and your health.  There are people I come across everyday in my career that do not have these things that we may so often take for granted. So next time you see a homeless person standing on a corner remember you are blessed.  Why not offer to buy them a meal or just a few kind words? Next time you cross paths with a stranger why not open a door for them or just say hello? There are millions of souls that have no one and one small gesture of kindness could mean the world to them. Remember to be grateful for what you have no matter how big or small you may think it is…because you are truly blessed!

Thoughtful Thursdays

IMG_1635.jpg

I wanted to start a blog for many reasons, my love for makeup, skin care products, accessories and fashion but also to make a difference in people’s lives. I thought I would try to write a short post every Thursday called “Thoughtful Thursday’s.” I feel like our society is becoming to fast paced and very judgmental. Is it due to social media we now have where you can judge people from a far without them knowing?  Maybe, who knows! I am here to make a change, it may be a small change but still one change can make all the difference in the world if we all did it!

I work in Marketing for a healthcare company full-time and come across a lot of different people throughout the day. Sometimes it’s rough when you come across people who are not always cordial and take it out on me. We do not always know what other people are going through in their lives so we shouldn’t try to judge. One situation I experienced a few years ago had me come to this conclusion about being more thoughtful.

My father passed away suddenly of brain cancer in 2015. This was of course devastating to my whole family and I. I was always daddy’s little girl.  A few months after he passed I was in the drive thru at McDonald’s getting my daily diet coke…I know not great for me!  Anyway the person in front of me paid it forward and bought my drink. So I did the same for the person behind me.  Well this kept happening to me for the next few weeks. I would be at a Starbucks drive thru and the person in front of me would pay for my coffee. Was this a coincidence or was my Dad giving me a sign?  Who knows,  but that small act of kindness meant a lot to me! So that’s where my idea of being more thoughtful came about.  So next time you’re in line buying your daily coffee or soda think about paying it forward and treating a stranger for the day.  You never know what they are going through!  That one act of kindness can mean the world to them.  It did for me!

Spring is a time of rebirth and renewal, so why not revitalize your spring beauty routine and look! I have found some fabulous beauty products that are a definite must have for this spring and most importantly affordable. I’m a big believer in freshening up your look each season.  Whether it’s a new shade in nail polish or lipstick or just splurging on one great statement piece. A neutral shade handbag that will go with anything is a fresh update. I found three great products recently I would love to share with you all.

First, I absolutely love the Bath & Body Works “Super Soft Body Butter” in Moonlight Path. It is so luxurious and feels like butter no pun intended lol. In the morning I apply to my legs and arms and it keeps me moisturized all day long. Oh and the scent is so heavenly! It can be purchased at any Bath & Body Works for $16.50.

Secondly,  I was browsing the beauty section at Target the other day and spotted this new nail product…don’t judge me it’s an addiction! The “Defy and Inspire” 2 makes 3 nail kit. Target has launched their very own nail line with some quirky shade names such as “Bachelor Nation” and “It’s Nothing Personal.” This 2 makes 3 kit comes with two shades and when you add the shades together you get a whole new look. I tried these shades on my toes and was pleasantly surprised that the two shades did achieve a third nail look. This kit can be purchased at any Target for $5.49.

Thirdly, I saved the best for last!  The “Fresh Sugar Tinted Lip Treatment in Rose.”  I adore this product, it is a lip moisturizer with a little color.  I tend to wear it under my lipstick or on weekends when I don’t feel like wearing a heavy shade. I received this as a gift from my mom who learned that the princess to be Meghan Markle has this as part of her beauty routine. I believe she likes the shade “Candy!” If it’s good enough for a princess its good enough for me! It can be purchased at Sephora for $24.00.
