“Kansas City Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2019 Preview Part 2.”

“Beyond The Makeup Brush” was lucky enough to get an invite to this exclusive Kansas City Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2019 Preview on September 26th at Union Station in Kansas City.  The Wednesday night event showcased seven designers from the Midwest to Iran.  There was a mixture of  beads, lace, mosaic textures to plaids with pops of color displayed down the runaway this year.

“H. Art Studios” by Lauren Hansen was first down the runaway. This talented Midwestern girl from Iowa is only 17 years of age! Her first look that came down the runaway was a show stopping couture wedding gown.  Lauren’s designs use beautiful beading to give it that couture look.  Lauren Hansen is one talented designer to watch. Lauren’s designs can be found at H. Art Studios

Next down the runaway was “MAANG” by Yasi Fayal.  “MAANG” means Moon in Farsi. Yasi is an Iranian fashion and jewelry designer.  Her pieces are inspired by geometric and mathematical shapes and patterns.  She uses her background in engineering to help inspire her pieces. She wants people to really think about her fashion in a different way.  If you want to get to know more about this gifted designer’s unique aesthetic check her out at on her instagram page @maangstudios

Coming down the runaway with a Californian “fun in the sun” feel was designer Amy Ellie with “Ideologie The Label.” Amy is an apparel and textile designer who also happens to be a student at Michigan State University.  Her design aesthetic definitely gave you that Spring/Summer feel with the off the shoulder blouses and halter tops. I loved the mixture of patterns she used to create her neutral color scheme.  I can’t wait to see more from this talented designer!

Local Kansas City  jewelry designer Clarissa Knighten with “Rissa’s Artistic Designs” dazzled the runaway next with her earthy, edgy and elegant jewelry pieces. Clarissa took a risk in 2017 and left the corporate world to pursue her dream of starting her own jewelry line.  All her pieces are one of a kind and can be custom made to fit your desired look.  She uses everything from beads, gemstones and wires to achieve her unique pieces. Check out more of this creative designer’s pieces at Rissa’s Artistic Design

Wowing the crowd next was  “Venn by Veron” Venn learned her sewing skills from local tailors from Nigeria. Her Spring/Summer 2019 Collection is more Avant Garde yet wearable.   Venn’s use of colorful mosaic tiles really set her pieces a part and make her overall collection very cohesive.  Venn’s collections can be found on instagram @veroniq1760

Lastly,  the audience was wowed by “Kalon By Kayla” Mikayla Tjeerdsma learned to sew at the early age of 9.  Her Spring/Summer 2019 collection incorporates a mixture of patterns and a touch of color to give  that  summertime feel. Mikayla’ cohesive collection was styled to perfection. I guarantee we will be seeing bright chunky sandals,  braids, braids, and more braids coming Spring 2019.  I cannot wait to see what this talented designer has up her sleeve next.

Stay Tuned for KCFW Fall/Winter 19 Collection!  Beyond The Makeup Brush will be there to cover the hottest Fall and Winter designs.

The Art of Collecting Still a Great Hobby!!

IMG_2249 (5).jpg

As a child you might remember having a fascination about collecting a certain toy.  I know I did, for some reason I loved teddy bears.  All kinds from panda bears, polar bears to your standard brown bear.  I’m not sure how it got started, but I remember I collected teddy bears until I was probably a teenager. Now my collection has turned into makeup, shoes and antique perfume bottles.  Collecting an item can be a great hobby if you have a healthy grasp on it.  Remember friends don’t go crazy…everything in moderation!

Why collecting items is good for your soul?  It’s exciting and gives you sense of being and a new passion. Whether it’s seeking out the latest super hero collectible, to hitting local antique stores for that unique perfume bottle.  In a world that has unfortunately become less inactive, collecting something gets your body moving.  I get chills seeking out my new find at local antique stores.  I have found most of my perfume bottles either at local antique stores or have received them as a gift.  If you’re a guy or gal that is hard to shop for having a hobby is also great because your loved one now has an idea of what to get you as a gift.  It can turn out to be a great investment as well.  Who knows, grandma’s dishes she collected and you inherited could now be worth a pretty penny.   Now go seek out your passionate find!!! Happy collecting!

Get The Buzz On My Latest Beauty Buys!

IMG_2178.jpg

Sometimes in life we need a little change.  Whether it’s changing the shade of your lipstick from a pale pink to a rosy red or a simple shimmer added to your latest shade of blush.  Ah, it’s the small things in life that make life worth living right? I love trying new products and I’m here to give you the 411 on what the latest buzz in beauty products are.

If you have read my previous posts you might recall me talking about Thrive Causemetics.  I love this company and what it stands for.  Thrive Causemetics is “Beauty with a Purpose.” Thrive’s goal is to donate a  product for each purchase to a woman in need. They are 100% cruelty free and vegan!  In the past I have tried their eyeshadow palettes and eyeliner and have not been disappointed. Recently, I decided to purchase their “Headliner” lipstick in the shade “Kennedy” which is a blue red shade that looks great on almost every skin tone, I am wearing all products listed in picture below.  It is a creamy texture that instantly hydates your lips and lasts all day. It can be purchased on their website at Thrive Causemetics for $26.00 and comes with a free adorable makeup bag.  How can you go wrong?

Products used: Nars Blush in “Orgasm,” Thrive Causmetics Lipstick in the shade “Kennedy,” and Pixi “Rose Oil Blend.”

The second product I recently purchased is Nars Blush in the shade “Orgasm,” I’m a big fan of Princess Meghan Markle and love her fashion sense and style, One of her favorite beauty products she loves wearing is Nars Blush in the shade “Orgasm” that gives her that natural rosy glow.   I purchased this shade for myself on their website Nars Cosmetics for $30.00.  I love that it gives me a subtle peachy glow with a little shimmer added to it.  If you go on the Nars Cosmetics website it gives you a variety of shades that you can choose from virtually by uploading your picture on their website. Pretty cool huh?

The third product that I keep seeing reviews about on other blogs and articles is Pixi Beauty Products.  I was headed to my nearest Target so I decided to browse the cosmetic section and see what I could find.  I’m a huge fan of trying different skincare treatments so I decided to purchase their Pixi Skintreats “Rose Oil Blend,” and give it a whirl.  Pixi’s face oil can be used before and after you take your makeup off for the day. You just need a few drops for each application to leave your skin feeling soft and refreshed all day.  The great thing about this product is that it contains all natural products such as sweet almond, rosehip, jojoba and is cruelty free.  It can be purchased at Target or you local drugstore for around  $24.00. If you have a derma roller it can be used alongside the oil in order to rejuvenate the skin. I am wearing it under my makeup in the picture shown above.  Remember friends change is always good!

It All Starts With A Great Foundation!!

IMG_2173

In life many things start with a strong foundation. This saying is true with your makeup as well.  I have struggled for many years trying to find the right foundation for my skin type.  At one time I probably had 10 or more foundations in hopes of finding the right one. I have combination skin so I tend to get oily on my T-Zone and dry everywhere else. When I breakout I tend to scar easily so I’m always on the look out for a full coverage foundation that lasts all day.

Ladies, I’m here to share my foundation favorites and tips on what to look for in a great foundation! Here are a few of my top picks from high end to drug store foundations. My number pick for anyone that wants full coverage foundation that last all day would be “Kat Von D Lock-It” Foundation pictured above. My twin sis Annie recommended it to me because she absolutely loves Kat’s makeup.  I use the shade 53 in the Medium-Warm Undertone.  It gives you a flawless coverage that lasts all day.  It comes in 30 different shades so you shouldn’t have a problem finding your perfect match.  I do have to say that if you tend to have very dry skin this foundation is probably not for you.  I purchased mine at Sephora for $35 along with this great “PRO Domed Foundation” brush #78 at Sephora for $36.  This is a great brush that is worth the investment. It’s used to apply liquid foundation and gives you that flawless full coverage look.

If you’re a babe on a budget then fear no more I have some great drugstore foundations I highly recommend.  Another full coverage foundation that I absolutely love is” Revlon Colorstay” Foundation.  This can be purchased at any Walmart, Target, or local drugstore for around $7.29.  I have used this foundation for over 15 years and love that it is full coverage, shine free, semi-matte finish and does last up to 24 hours. I use the combination/oily foundation for my combo skin but it also comes in normal and dry skin as well.

The second foundation that I recommend if you don’t need full coverage and don’t mind spending a few extra dollars is “Aveda Mineral Dual Foundation.” This foundation can be applied wet or dry for light or heavy coverage. I do love mineral foundations because they tend to be a little bit lighter and are healthy for your skin. I use this mineral foundation over concealer to get a fuller coverage. Aveda products are sold in salons across the U.S. or you can get online on their website at www.aveda.com for $26.00.  The one thing I am not a fan of is the packaging.  It does not come in a compact because it’s intended to be used in salons with makeup artists with their built in palettes.

Last but definitely not least is “Maybelline’s Fit Me Matte Poreless” foundation which can be purchased at Walmart, Target or any local drugstore for around $7.99. This product gives you that natural look.  So if you don’t need alot of coverage and just want an all over even poreless look I would recommend this foundation for you.  If you go on www.maybelline.com you can take a short survey to find your perfect shade.  I am shade 220 in Natural Beige.  Like anything in life whether its love, your home or your makeup it all starts with a great foundation!
