“Kansas City Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2019 Preview Part 2.”

“Beyond The Makeup Brush” was lucky enough to get an invite to this exclusive Kansas City Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2019 Preview on September 26th at Union Station in Kansas City.  The Wednesday night event showcased seven designers from the Midwest to Iran.  There was a mixture of  beads, lace, mosaic textures to plaids with pops of color displayed down the runaway this year.

“H. Art Studios” by Lauren Hansen was first down the runaway. This talented Midwestern girl from Iowa is only 17 years of age! Her first look that came down the runaway was a show stopping couture wedding gown.  Lauren’s designs use beautiful beading to give it that couture look.  Lauren Hansen is one talented designer to watch. Lauren’s designs can be found at H. Art Studios

Next down the runaway was “MAANG” by Yasi Fayal.  “MAANG” means Moon in Farsi. Yasi is an Iranian fashion and jewelry designer.  Her pieces are inspired by geometric and mathematical shapes and patterns.  She uses her background in engineering to help inspire her pieces. She wants people to really think about her fashion in a different way.  If you want to get to know more about this gifted designer’s unique aesthetic check her out at on her instagram page @maangstudios

Coming down the runaway with a Californian “fun in the sun” feel was designer Amy Ellie with “Ideologie The Label.” Amy is an apparel and textile designer who also happens to be a student at Michigan State University.  Her design aesthetic definitely gave you that Spring/Summer feel with the off the shoulder blouses and halter tops. I loved the mixture of patterns she used to create her neutral color scheme.  I can’t wait to see more from this talented designer!

Local Kansas City  jewelry designer Clarissa Knighten with “Rissa’s Artistic Designs” dazzled the runaway next with her earthy, edgy and elegant jewelry pieces. Clarissa took a risk in 2017 and left the corporate world to pursue her dream of starting her own jewelry line.  All her pieces are one of a kind and can be custom made to fit your desired look.  She uses everything from beads, gemstones and wires to achieve her unique pieces. Check out more of this creative designer’s pieces at Rissa’s Artistic Design

Wowing the crowd next was  “Venn by Veron” Venn learned her sewing skills from local tailors from Nigeria. Her Spring/Summer 2019 Collection is more Avant Garde yet wearable.   Venn’s use of colorful mosaic tiles really set her pieces a part and make her overall collection very cohesive.  Venn’s collections can be found on instagram @veroniq1760

Lastly,  the audience was wowed by “Kalon By Kayla” Mikayla Tjeerdsma learned to sew at the early age of 9.  Her Spring/Summer 2019 collection incorporates a mixture of patterns and a touch of color to give  that  summertime feel. Mikayla’ cohesive collection was styled to perfection. I guarantee we will be seeing bright chunky sandals,  braids, braids, and more braids coming Spring 2019.  I cannot wait to see what this talented designer has up her sleeve next.

Stay Tuned for KCFW Fall/Winter 19 Collection!  Beyond The Makeup Brush will be there to cover the hottest Fall and Winter designs.

Leave It Up To Us To Give You Our Must Have Essentials This Fall!!

IMG_2370

Fall is definitely one of my favorite seasons.  What’s not to like, everything from warm fuzzy sweaters, pumpkin spice everything, colorful leaves, the smell of crisp air, and ankle boots!!  Beyond The Makeup Brush wants to share our must have essentials for Fall.

Autumn is all about warm shades whether it is dark berry lipsticks, rustic reds or midnight blue nail polishes. Lovelies,  these are the must haves this Fall.  I love “Maybelline Color Sensational” Lip Color in “Blissful Berry” pictured below.  This is a great berry shade for Fall and can be purchased at Target for $3.79.  It’s a rich dark berry color that goes on smooth with a touch of nectar honey.

Now that you beauty babes out there have your Fall lip shade in check.  What about those nails?  This Fall it’s all about the midnight blues, warm beiges and anything jewel toned inspired.  I love OPI’s “Eurso Euro” pictured below.  It tends to be a dark navy blue color when applied.  I purchased this shade at Target for $5.99!

Now that Fall is officially here you still want to keep that flawless face.  What better way to use a CC cream.  I love Thrive Causemetics “Buildable Blur CC Cream” in “Natural Beige.”  If you’re not familiar with what a CC cream it is the best invention since sliced bread!  A CC cream is lighter than a foundation but has more coverage than a BB cream.  If you have red spots, acne scars or an uneven skin tone, CC cream is a great product to correct your imperfections. I love Thrive Causemetics because it is vegan and cruelty free and the company stands for a great cause!!  I purchased this product on their website Thrive Causemetics for $38.00 and it comes with a free makeup bag!  They also carry a BB cream if you have flawless skin and just need a touch of coverage, lucky gals!

Chocolate and Gold are a gals best friend! Now you can have both in this incredible must have”Chocolate Gold” eye shadow palette from Too Faced for $49.00.  If you are going to invest in one makeup product for Fall, I would definitely check this palette out.  I purchased this palette at Sephora or can be purchased on Too Faced website as well. The “Chocolate Gold” eye shadow palette is actually infused with real gold and cocoa powder, pretty amazing right? The colors are so pigmented and go on velvety smooth. These shadows are very versatile that allows you to go from a natural daytime look to a dramatic look for a night out!

IMG_2388.jpg

I’m a huge believer in skin care and any product that keeps your skin soft all year long. I discovered the Pacifica products a few months ago at Target, and absolutely fell in love!  I love the “Pacifica Dreamy Youth Rose and Peptides” body lotion.  It’s not too thick and has a clean rose scent. It’s great to put on right after taking a bath or shower and keeps your skin soft all day long.  I purchased at Target  for $14.99 be sure to check out their whole line of beauty products.

One Fall trend that I absolutely adore is long delicate necklaces you can layer.  I love this  “Filigree Oval Long Necklace” by “A New Day” purchased at Target for $14.99.  Whether its gold, sliver or beaded, long delicate necklaces are staple this Fall season.  Gals get those layers on!!

The Art of Collecting Still a Great Hobby!!

IMG_2249 (5).jpg

As a child you might remember having a fascination about collecting a certain toy.  I know I did, for some reason I loved teddy bears.  All kinds from panda bears, polar bears to your standard brown bear.  I’m not sure how it got started, but I remember I collected teddy bears until I was probably a teenager. Now my collection has turned into makeup, shoes and antique perfume bottles.  Collecting an item can be a great hobby if you have a healthy grasp on it.  Remember friends don’t go crazy…everything in moderation!

Why collecting items is good for your soul?  It’s exciting and gives you sense of being and a new passion. Whether it’s seeking out the latest super hero collectible, to hitting local antique stores for that unique perfume bottle.  In a world that has unfortunately become less inactive, collecting something gets your body moving.  I get chills seeking out my new find at local antique stores.  I have found most of my perfume bottles either at local antique stores or have received them as a gift.  If you’re a guy or gal that is hard to shop for having a hobby is also great because your loved one now has an idea of what to get you as a gift.  It can turn out to be a great investment as well.  Who knows, grandma’s dishes she collected and you inherited could now be worth a pretty penny.   Now go seek out your passionate find!!! Happy collecting!

Healthy Tips : How To Relieve Stress and Anxiety in a World Full of Chaos! Annie Kotich(Contributor)

IMG_2202.jpg

Anxiety and stress happen to be all to common now a days with the hustle and bustle of life. I have suffered from anxiety for years and it is not an easy thing to manage.  My friends, managing stress can be easy with some simple and healthy life changes.

First of all you need to find out the root of what is causing your stress or anxiety.  Is it genetic or is it brought upon by environmental issues such as work, finances, social pressure, or family issues?  When you find the root of the cause of your stress or anxiety it will become easier to figure out how to manage it.

Remember,  I am not a medical professional, just a midwest girl who has suffered from anxiety most of my life. If your anxiety is disrupting your daily life, it’s time to seek help from a therapist or doctor.

Here are some tips I have learned over the years and most recently to reduce my stress and anxiety. Tip #1 purchase a journal or notebook of some kind to organize your tasks for the day.  I tend to get overwhelmed easily with work, bills, and even planning out when to do my blog posts. You can get a cute journal most everywhere, like the one shown above.  I purchased these two at Target for $6.99 each. One for organizing your tasks for the day as well as finances. Tip #2 find  a gratitude journal or jar. Sometimes its easy for us to forget the positive things in our life when there is negativity or stress we deal with on a daily basis.  The purpose of the gratitude journal is to write down a few things each day that you are grateful for.  Some things I’m grateful for are: I had a good night sleep or my day at work went well.  This will allow you to focus on the positive things in your life instead of dwelling on the negative. Plus it’s always fun to get a cute pen to write with!!

IMG_2223 (2)

Tip #3  Purchase essential oils to relieve stress and anxiety.  I am a big fan of these,  lavender oils are known to reduce anxiety, improve sleep, and brain function. You can use lavender oils in a variety of different ways. Use it with a diffuser and put by your bed or family room.  You can sprinkle some on your pillow as well for a good nights sleep.  I’m a big fan of soaking my worries away in a tub. I love sprinkling some in my bath water for a calming effect.  You can also apply lavender oil topically behind your ears for the same benefits. Another great essential oil for anxiety and stress is peppermint. Peppermint oil is known to help with headaches, nausea and opening nasal passages, allergies and more. I use it to help me breath a little better when my anxiety is acting up.  Just add a few dabs under your nose to help open nasal passages.  You can also add to a diffuser as well or dab on your temples to help relieve a tension headache.  I purchased the lavender and peppermint essential oils at Walmart for about $5.33 each. Tip #4 use therapy dough or a stress ball to relieve some of your daily stress.  I purchased “Pinch Me” therapy dough at Barnes and Noble for about $14.95.  This stuff is amazing, just roll it between your fingers when you feel stress coming on.  “Pinch Me” therapy dough is a soft, pliable dough infused with calming aromatherapy. You can even use it while your watching television, reading or in a meeting, anywhere you need to unwind.  Now go live a stress and anxiety free life!!!

Note: If you do find that your stress and anxiety is getting hard to handle on your own, it may be time to seek professional help. You may also confide in a friend or family member for support. There are many free resources available to lend a caring ear.

Get The Buzz On My Latest Beauty Buys!

IMG_2178.jpg

Sometimes in life we need a little change.  Whether it’s changing the shade of your lipstick from a pale pink to a rosy red or a simple shimmer added to your latest shade of blush.  Ah, it’s the small things in life that make life worth living right? I love trying new products and I’m here to give you the 411 on what the latest buzz in beauty products are.

If you have read my previous posts you might recall me talking about Thrive Causemetics.  I love this company and what it stands for.  Thrive Causemetics is “Beauty with a Purpose.” Thrive’s goal is to donate a  product for each purchase to a woman in need. They are 100% cruelty free and vegan!  In the past I have tried their eyeshadow palettes and eyeliner and have not been disappointed. Recently, I decided to purchase their “Headliner” lipstick in the shade “Kennedy” which is a blue red shade that looks great on almost every skin tone, I am wearing all products listed in picture below.  It is a creamy texture that instantly hydates your lips and lasts all day. It can be purchased on their website at Thrive Causemetics for $26.00 and comes with a free adorable makeup bag.  How can you go wrong?

IMG_2189.jpg
Products used: Nars Blush in “Orgasm,” Thrive Causmetics Lipstick in the shade “Kennedy,” and Pixi “Rose Oil Blend.”

The second product I recently purchased is Nars Blush in the shade “Orgasm,” I’m a big fan of Princess Meghan Markle and love her fashion sense and style, One of her favorite beauty products she loves wearing is Nars Blush in the shade “Orgasm” that gives her that natural rosy glow.   I purchased this shade for myself on their website Nars Cosmetics for $30.00.  I love that it gives me a subtle peachy glow with a little shimmer added to it.  If you go on the Nars Cosmetics website it gives you a variety of shades that you can choose from virtually by uploading your picture on their website. Pretty cool huh?

The third product that I keep seeing reviews about on other blogs and articles is Pixi Beauty Products.  I was headed to my nearest Target so I decided to browse the cosmetic section and see what I could find.  I’m a huge fan of trying different skincare treatments so I decided to purchase their Pixi Skintreats “Rose Oil Blend,” and give it a whirl.  Pixi’s face oil can be used before and after you take your makeup off for the day. You just need a few drops for each application to leave your skin feeling soft and refreshed all day.  The great thing about this product is that it contains all natural products such as sweet almond, rosehip, jojoba and is cruelty free.  It can be purchased at Target or you local drugstore for around  $24.00. If you have a derma roller it can be used alongside the oil in order to rejuvenate the skin. I am wearing it under my makeup in the picture shown above.  Remember friends change is always good!

From left to right: Soap & Glory “Sugar Crush Body Scrub,” Bare Republic “Mineral Sunscreen,” Messner Bee Farm “Lip Balm Locket in Lavender and Lemonade.” Soap & Glory “Original Pink Body Spray,” and Soap & Glory “Hand Food Hydrating Hand Cream.”

Beyond the Makeup Brush would like to treat you to some of our favorite must have beauty products to get your skin ready for summer!  I love Soap & Glory body products such as their “Sugar Crush Body Scrub” which has a nice fresh hint of lime scent. It’s great to exfoliate your dead skin after laying out by the pool or at the beach.  Of course you can’t go out in those bright sunrays without some strong SPF.  I’m a big fan of Bare Republic Mineral Sunscreen “Neon Sunscreen Sticks” SPF of 50.  I’m a huge believer in sunscreen all year-long. When I’m out in the sun I definitely use an SPF of at least 40 and tend to use makeup products with some kind of SPF year round.

When it comes to hand lotions I’m a bit of an addict. I absolutely love hand lotion. I  always carry a few small bottles in my handbag with me.  Soap & Glory’s “Hand Food Hydrating Hand Cream” is one of my favorites. It moisturizes your hands so well from first application, with its rose scented silky cream. The scent is to die for!  Of course you can’t go without the Soap & Glory “Original Pink Body Spray, it has a fresh fruity smell and goes on cool and light, perfect for those hot summer nights. I’m a huge supporter of local businesses and  recently came across this small locally owned company the Messner Bee Farm at the Makers Faire here in Kansas City.  I love things that are all natural and locally owned.  I fell in love with their lip balm lockets made out of bee’s wax. The scent of lavender is so calming to me and I’m sure your lips will fall in love with their lavender and lemonade flavor as well!

“Whose eyeliner is it anyway?”

My friends, I have been on the search for the perfect eyeliner for years. Specifically, one that has a great pigmented color, is waterproof and lasts all day without running. It has been a ongoing journey until I finally discovered a few brands I absolutely love and think you will too!

The first one that I purchased was Thrive Causemetics “Infinity Waterproof Eyeliner” in the shade “Lauren” which is a black matte color.  It’s the first shade on my arm pictured above. I purchased this on their website for $22 and it comes with a cute makeup bag and built in sharpener.  It states it’s waterproof and smudge proof but after a long 8 or 9 hours of wearing the product it did smudge a little. I did not have to reapply during the day which is good news! I do love this company because all their products are cruelty free, vegan and toxic free. Their mission is “Beauty with a Purpose” for every product that is purchased one is donated to a woman in need “in order to thrive,”  I will continue to purchase from this company… so go check them out!

The second eyeliner that I highly recommend is Chanel “Stylo Yeux Waterproof” long lasting eyeliner for $33. I purchased the shade “Black Shimmer,” it is the second shade on my arm above. The price may seem a little steep but I feel like it’s worth it. This eyeliner is amazing! “Stylo Yeux  Waterproof” is smudge and waterproof and lives up to its product description.  It goes on smooth and lasts all day long!  It comes in 16 shades with a built in sharpener. If you want a soft and subtle eyeliner that doesn’t give you that harsh look this is the liner for you!

My third favorite eyeliner I purchased was Maybelline “Line Works Liquid” eyeliner in the shade black for $5.97 at Walmart . This is the third shade on my arm in the picture above.  I love this eyeliner as well. It’s affordable and stays on all day.  If I know I am going to be outside for awhile or have a long work day ahead  this is my go to liner. This liner is not for the faint of heart. It gives you more of a dramatic appearance and is great to use for a cat eye look. It has a flexible tip that gives you great control and is waterproof.  If you’re on a tight budget I would highly recommend this liner!

“Roses are red violets are blue.. how about a little rose gold for you?”

Rose Gold is the hot new shade this year not only in jewelry, makeup, and shoes but for hair as well!  Whether you’re a blond, brunette or red-head a little pop of rose gold goes a long way!  I wanted a touch of rose color in my hair so my hair stylist Amanda Meyer from Stem Hair and Body Salon added a subtle rose color.  She gave me Surface Pure Blonde Rose shampoo as well to deepen the rose color as needed.  This shampoo can be purchased at your local salon or click on link I provided above.  The color washes out so you can try it for a few days and see how you like it or use on a continuous basis.  So Ladies and Gents “Roses are red and violets are blue, now go get some rose gold on you!”
